Write A Macronutrient Analysis
1. Answer the following questions (through page 7) to analyze your macronutrients
intake.
Please be detailed. The examples are only guidelines; your answers should be more
detailed.
Macronutrients Analysis
Carbohydrates (AMDR is 45-65% of total calories)
1. How many grams of carbohydrates did you consume daily? How did your results
compare to the RDA for carbohydrates? (2 pts.)
o I only consumed about half of my RDA for carbs. I ate an average of 250g out
of the recommended 500g and should drastically increase my total
carbohydrate intake.
2. Discuss your added sugar intake, including the percent of total calories per day and
where it might be too high. (Include Calculations) (3 pts.)
o My added sugar intake averaged 45g per day out of my 2200 kcal/day average
intake. (Show calculations for g sugar into kcal sugar and % sugar of total
calories.) This was under 10% of total calories (8%) and below my
recommended 50g. Sweetened yogurts and candy are my main sources of
added sugar.
3. Did you meet fiber recommendations? Identify any high-fiber foods you consumed.
How could you change your fiber intake to meet recommendations? (2 pts.)
o I met 75% of my RDA consuming 38 out of the recommended 51g. Notable
foods currently in my diet are chickpeas, bananas and broccoli.
4. Describe 2 dietary changes that would change your intake and more closely meet
carbohydrate and sugar recommendations. (3 pts.)
o I could consider cutting back on my candy and flavored yogurts to reduce
added sugars. To increase fiber, I could add real fruit to plain yogurt along with
a piece of whole wheat bread, which would help my total carbohydrate goal as
well.
Fats (AMDR is 20-35% of total calories)
1. How many grams of fat did you consume daily? How did your results compare to
the RDA for fats? (2 pts.)
2. What percent of your total calories came from saturated fat? How does this
compare
to the recommendation for saturated fat consumption? (Include Calculations) (3 pts.)
3. Did you meet the recommended amounts of MUFAs and PUFAs? Name the foods
that you consumed that were good sources of MUFAs and PUFAs or foods you could
consume in order to meet requirements. (2 pts.)
4. Describe 2 dietary changes that would improve your daily fat intake to more closely
meet RDA recommendations. (3 pts.)
Protein (AMDR is 10 – 35% of calories)
1. How many grams of protein did you consume daily? Were your results too high or
low
based on RDA for protein and the factors that influence your protein needs? (2 pts.)
2. What percent of your total calories came from protein? (Include Calculations)
(3 pts.)
3. Identify the food choices that were good sources or poor sources of protein.
(2 pts.)
4. Describe 2 dietary changes to improve your protein intake to more closely meet
RDA recommendations. (3 pts.)
Step Three: Write an Activity Analysis
1. Answer the following questions to analyze your activity as it relates to your
macronutrients intake.
Activity Analysis
Protein: (3 pts.)
1. Are you getting enough protein to support the amount of total activity you do?
Include calculations that show the range of protein you should be consuming based
on your activity levels.
2. Describe any dietary changes you can make to better support your protein
consumption for the amount of activity you do.
Carbohydrates: (3 pts.)
1. Are you getting enough carbohydrates to support the amount of activity you do?
Include your calculations for carbohydrate requirements in your discussion.
2. Describe any dietary changes you can make to better support your carbohydrate
consumption for the amount of activity you do.
Fats: (4 pts.)
1. Are you eating the right amount and right types of fat to support the amount of
activity you do?
2. Describe any dietary changes you can make to better support your fat
consumption for the amount of activity you do.

If you are having trouble finding current articles that refute or do not align with information received, you may need to look further back than January 2015. If that is the case, please confirm articles chosen with the professor.

Saturated Fat Intake and Media
This assignment requires you to evaluate a popular news article on nutrition and determine its accuracy. The task involves analyzing the article’s main points and deciding whether it aligns with decades of research findings and national health recommendations regarding saturated fat intake and disease risk. Given the overwhelming amount of nutrition-related news available in popular media, including newspapers, magazines, and blogs, navigating and comprehending them can be challenging. Therefore, it is crucial to note that a single new study cannot contradict decades of established research findings and national health recommendations.
To complete this assignment, you should locate a popular article or blog that promotes the safety of consuming foods high in saturated fat, such as butter, fatty meat, or cheese. Then, follow the steps provided below.
List the article’s author, year, title, name of the site, date you visited the site (day, month, year), and “URL.” Popular articles are often short and informal and rarely have references or professional peer reviews.
Summarize the article’s main points in your own words (at least 50 words).
State the article’s purpose and explain whether the author accomplished it; most popular articles write to entertain, inform, persuade, explore, describe, or instruct their readers. Explain your rationale by including quotes or phrases from the article to support your answer (at least 150 words). For example:
If the purpose is to inform, has the material been presented accurately and with order and coherence?
If the purpose is to persuade, look for evidence and logical reasoning?
Determine how emotions are affected if the purpose is to entertain. Did it make you laugh, get angry or feel bad? How did it affect you?
Based on what you have learned about the science behind national recommendations, analyze the article’s main talking points (at least 150 words). Provide at least two pieces of “evidence” to support or refute the article’s claims and conclude whether you think the article is accurate or not. Evidence can come from the text, course materials, or library resource page.
Write a conclusion about what you learned and thought about the assignment (at least 50 words).
Bibliography
Assignments are checked for plagiarism in the Turn it In Canvas framework. Reports with a similarity index of more than 15% will be subject to a reduction in credit. If more than 50%, you will receive a 0.
