1. One of the most famous events in the study of geometry involved Archimedes and a bath tub. Research this story. Find at least 2-3 different sources of information. To properly complete this assignment, you will need to do the following:
Explain the story in your own words, citing your sources of information.
Describe how the story relates to the study of geometry.
2. Create a new Microsoft Word (.doc / .docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) document on your computer, and write 1-2 pages (please see formatting information below) explaining the story and relating it to the study of geometry in your own words. Please cite 2-3 references from websites that are reputable (they have a “.edu” extension). Note: headings, titles, references, blank lines etc. do not count towards the more than one page requirement.
Please follow MLA formatting (Purdue Owl MLA Style Guide):
Double spaced
12pt font
1″ margins
Indent paragraphs
Include a Works Cited page (separate page, not included in the 1-2 page requirement)
this is a geometry task with multiple links and what not to post its about 2 pages but I do not know how to attach all the links that the writer will need to do this specific assignment
Complete a one-paragraph summary of the information provided in the video. Your summary should include information on the coordinate system used in navigation, archaeology, and space.
Write a paragraph describing a real-world application in which the coordinate grid system is used. Include a simple example specific to your application and a diagram, if appropriate. You can use an idea from the movie or search the Internet. If you do get your idea from the movie or the Internet, please cite your source. Create a blueprint of an ideal room in your house using a coordinate plane
Classify three of the shapes in your blueprint and justify your classification using theorems about quadrilaterals and triangles
Use coordinates to calculate the perimeter and area of the room in your blueprint When communicating with others, it is important to use the most descriptive language possible to eliminate confusion. Using the most descriptive name for a polygon allows you to communicate effectively and efficiently.
Types of Triangles
acute – The largest angle in the triangle is between 0–90 degrees.
equilateral – All of the sides and angles are congruent.
isosceles – Two of the sides and angles are congruent.
obtuse – The largest angle in the triangle is between 90–180 degrees.
right – The largest angle in the triangle is exactly 90 degrees.
scalene – All of the sides and angles are different.
Types of Quadrilaterals
kite – a quadrilateral where two pairs of adjacent sides are congruent
parallelogram – a quadrilateral where both pairs of opposite sides are parallel
rectangle – a parallelogram with four right angles
rhombus – a parallelogram with four congruent sides
square – a figure that is both a rectangle and a rhombus
trapezoid – a quadrilateral where exactly one pair of opposite sides are parallel
Review the theorems you learned in this unit, and add a description of any defining characteristics to the shapes above.
review the theorums youve learned in this unit and add a description of any defining characteristics to the shapes above. Pick a room in your house that you would like to remodel. Make a blueprint of the remodeled room on a coordinate plane. Since you can’t draw a life-size picture of the room, you will need to use a scale for your drawing. do you drawing on paper ans scan to turn in. For your drawing, determine a scale that you think will be appropriate, considering the relative sizes of the room and the paper. For example, the scale 1 unit = 1 inch will probably make your diagram too big, and the scale 1 unit = 2 feet will probably make your diagram too small. Your scale should use most of the page but still contain all of the information you need to show. Include coordinates at the vertices of the room.
Calculate the perimeter and area of your remodeled room. Be sure to show all of your calculations. In your blueprint, add three appliances or key pieces of furniture. Classify the polygons you drew to represent your furniture using the most descriptive name possible. Justify each of your classifications.
Is your blueprint specific enough for an architect and interior designer to follow? What strengths and weaknesses does your blueprint have? In your math journal, discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your blueprint. Also, discuss how the weaknesses could be addressed.
You will turn in a reflection on the strengths and weaknesses of your blueprint and how any weaknesses could be addressed.
At the end of the unit, you will turn in the following:
a blueprint of a room drawn in a coordinate plane, using an appropriate scale
a page of calculations showing how you found the perimeter and area of the remodeled room
a paragraph discussing a real-world application of the coordinate plane
a paragraph summarizing the videos
a reflection about the strengths and weaknesses of your blueprint and how the weaknesses could be addressed
classifications of three polygons that were used to represent appliances or furniture in your blueprint
