This a 1500 word essay on the EU using a data programme. I have attached the queations in a file 1. Please upload your coursework submission as a single Jupyter Notebook
(ipynb) file into Canvas. Include both your code, output and written answers
in this file.
2. Your ipynb file should clearly show each of your steps. Make sure you
annotate your code.
3. Try to be as efficient as you can with Python code.
4. Do not forget to use Markdown to differentiate your text and statements from
the code.
5. Note for any written answers in the Jupyter Notebook you need to change
the cell type to “markdown”.
6. Submit your coursework in Canvas under the “Assignments” tab.
7. Please check Canvas for the submission deadline.
Download the file “EU_Ref.csv” from Canvas. This is a comma separated file
containing information from each local authority in the UK on the EU Referendum vote
of 2016. The data contain 377 observations (rows) and 20 variables. The key
outcome variable is a discrete variable; “leaveeu” which takes the value 1 if the
number of votes to leave the EU was larger than the number of votes to remain within
the local authority. As such, this tells us whether each Local Authority voted to leave
or not.
Along with this there are variables that measure characteristics of the local authority
demographics, migration, educational levels, employment levels, etc. For a more
detailed description of the construction of this data see Becker, Fetzer and Novy
(2017).
The task in this coursework is to explore these data and build prediction models where
the variable of interest is the Brexit vote outcome – leaveeu. We will examine a range
of supervised learning methods e.g. OLS, Logistic, Regularised Logit, etc.

Here is a zip attachment of the case. The main content of the case is “Alveva Subscription Box Service_Final.docx” file. The rest files “Alveva Template.gms” and “Alveva Template.xlsx” are data.
Note:
1. BONMIN solver is not available for the latest version of GAMS. You may use SCIP instead.
2. Please use GAMS to solve the case, as Excel may lead to incorrect results.

Based upon what you have read, do you believe that the government should establish a national energy policy? If so, how would you construct this policy? Would you emphasis non-renewable energy (oil, natural gas, coal) or renewable energy (solar, hydro, thermal)? If not, how would you address our current energy issues? Again, would you emphasis non-renewable energy (oil, natural gas, coal) or renewable energy (solar, hydro, geothermal)?
Your paper should be 2-3 pages in length and all citations must use APA formatting. Please refer to the Course Project overview for a list of all requirements for this paper.
