Prior to beginning work on this assignment, visit the University of Arizona Global Campus Library’s ART101: Week 3 Assignment, web page and go through the Art Identifying Movements interactive, reading the descriptions for each movement.
This week, you will curate an art gallery specific to an artist of your choice. To prepare for this project, you will select an artist and examine their movement or period, region, and individual style. Your artist can be from one of the movements you looked at previously, or they can be from a different movement. To research your artist, go to the University of Arizona Global Campus Library’s ART101: Week 3 Assignment web page you may also draw from your textbook, the Art Identifying Movements interactive, and other resources for this class.
In your paper, outline the following information:
Include the name of your artist.
Provide a brief biography of your artist.
Include one work of art from your artist, including the full APA-formatted reference.
A work that you have already examined elsewhere in this class is acceptable for this assignment. (For your final gallery presentation, you will need to find five works from your artist, so make sure you are able to do this before deciding which artist you will focus on.)
Explain the different materials, methods, techniques, and subjects in your artist’s work.
Describe how these elements were emblematic of the movement your artist was a part of, the region they were from, and the artist’s individual style.
Use at least two credible sources to support your points. The University of Arizona Global Campus Library’s ART101: Week 3 Assignment web page is a helpful source of information, as is the ART101 Museum and Images Website document.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment
Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review Section 4.5.2 Stylistic Periods or Movements in your textbook, and go through the Art Identifying Movements interactive, examining the different movements.
Select two works of art, each from a different movement. Select works of art that you have not previously examined in this class. Consider using the University of Arizona Global Campus Library’s ART101: Week 2 Assignment web page to research both of your movements and find a credible source for each movement.
In your paper, for each work of art,
Identify the title of the work, the name of the artist, the date of the work, the place it was created (if known), and the movement it is from.
Provide a formal critical analysis.
Refer to Section 4.3.5 for examples of formal critical analyses. Your analysis should contain the following four aspects:
Description
Analysis
Interpretation
Evaluation
Explain how political, social, and other applicable contextual factors of the movement or stylistic period is reflected in the work of art.
Refer to Section 5.3: Socio-Cultural Contexts of your textbook, and your researched sources from the University of Arizona Global Campus Library for help with this.
Include images of both works of art in an appendix at the end of your paper.
The ProQuest and JSTOR databases in the University of Arizona Global Campus Library are helpful sources of information, as are the museum resources provided in Week 1. You can find credible sources by visiting the University of Arizona Global Campus Library’s ART101 page.
