The purpose statement should flow directly from the problem statement. It should be a concise paragraph that explains the intent of the study. Specific reasons should be provided for conducting the research and should directly relate to the research questions. The researcher should begin the purpose statement with, “The purpose of this (qualitative or quantitative) study is to…”. The purpose statement should further describe the methodological design identifying the approach or process by which the study will be conducted. This section typically ranges between 200 and 300 words.
The significance of the study should demonstrate why the study is essential and how the contribution(s) from the finalized research will add to the field of study. Keep in mind that this section is different from the problem statement. The problem statement identifies the problem, shows a scarcity or lack of data or information in a particular area. The purpose statement
explains why the study is being conducted (to address the problem). The significance of the study section looks at the benefits or positive outcomes of answering the research questions and achieving the goals (purpose) of the study. How will the findings from the research add to or impact the greater the body of knowledge? This section is typically one page in length.
After reviewing the Reading and Study material for this module and conducting your own outside research, craft a purpose statement and significance of the study section stemming from the proposed problem statement from week 2. Please follow the below steps:
1. Submit a revised problem statement incorporating the Professor’s feedback from Week 2.
2. Craft a purpose statement starting with the sentence, “The purpose of this (qualitative or quantitative) study is to…”. The purpose statement should range between 200-300 words.
3. Develop a significance of the study section not to exceed 1 page.
Problem Statement
Presently, the world is becoming
more advanced with various emerging technologies transforming how tasks are
done. Artificial intelligence and robotic technologies are emerging and
increasingly adapted to transform operations in almost every workplace. Indeed,
these technologies are helping to do activities in real-time and reduce the costs
of doing activities. Further, research reveals that these technologies do not
need breaks and can be programmed to work throughout the day and night, leading
to positive results. Despite the enormous benefits that these technologies pose,
they bring particular problems to a society, workplaces, and other settings
where they are used. The main problem with these technologies is that they cause
unemployment. Business owners benefit from implementing the AI and robotic
technologies, making them introduce them eagerly, but this comes as a loss to
employees, especially the less-skilled ones (Bordot, 2022). Other problems
with these technologies include the presence of bias or discrimination, the
possibility of errors while using these technologies, and privacy and
transparency issues while using these technologies (Bartneck et al., 2020).
Therefore, as these emerging
technologies continue arising quickly, proper measures must be undertaken to
reduce their ethical issues. One solution for solving these problems includes
mandating employment through legislation or labor agreements. Appropriate labor
laws will prohibit employers from laying off employees and instead make
employers consider training the less-skilled employees to work with the
technologies (Stevens & Marchant, 2017). Other solutions include using
neutral algorithms to set up the technologies and training people to stop
over-relying on these technologies. Also, individuals should be trained to use
the technologies properly to reduce their privacy, safety or transparency
issues. Therefore, the research will help understand the ethical issues of AI
and robotic technologies and devise amicable solutions to the problems posed by
these technologies.

Professor Feedback:
You have adequately completed a well-crafted problem statement. Your problem statement appropriately meets the criteria for a solid and effective problem that needs to be explored. In this stage of your research, you have demonstrated a tactical and efficient understanding of developing a problem statement. You provided well-supported resources. But, stay flexible as you proceed through the research some areas may shift and need further modification. Well Done!
