PEER 1:Cheyanne Smith: Hello all,
For my topic, I want to look at why we should be moral. This can be difficult because what is being moral? There are many ways that one could achieve and some that one might disagree with. Throughout my educational career, I have learned a great deal about the different norms of societies. What is appropriate and what is not. It would be important to define what I consider moral while understanding my own biases against what others might consider moral as well. But first, defining morality is vital since this would be discussing why one should behave in this way. From that definition, we can see how one can be moral and why it is beneficial to behave morally.
I discussed earlier about how different cultures can change how they might view being moral but even in our own lifetimes, this can change. Beebe & Sackris (2016) research how this can change throughout the lifetime of a person as they studied teens to people in their retirement. I think that by understanding how others view behaving morally as well as their own “moral behavior” will help to show other reasons why we should act in such a way. It can help to build my own argument about this and also let it evolve despite my own viewpoint from my own age as well.

PEER 2: Jon Shipley: For my final paper project, I have chosen to explore the idea of free will. Solomon and Higgins (2017, 422) define free will as “… a person is capable of making decisions that are not determined by antecedent conditions”. This is a hotly debated topic in philosophy, as some argue that we have no control over our actions, that rather they are a series of causes and effects. People have free will over their lives, meaning they ultimately decide how their life will turn out. Of course, there are circumstances in which they have to work with in making their free will decision, but in the end, it is their choice to make. This would lend itself to the determinist argument of free will. “Determinism is therefore the theory that every event in the universe, including every human action, has its natural explanatory causes; given certain earlier conditions, then an event will take place necessarily, according to the laws of nature, and accordingly we lack metaphysical freedom” (Solomon & Higgins, 2017, 233).
