Grading of this assignment will be based upon the extent to which you can apply your knowledge of basic research concepts in interpreting, describing, and assessing this article. Each paper assignment is worth 8 points in all and grading will be guided by the following rubric:
9-10 exceeds expectations: Demonstrates sophisticated ability to understand theory and apply relevant research methods concepts to interpret the study and describe and explain its rationale and methodology; identifies and clearly explains the main weaknesses and alternative interpretations of the study in a way that reflects sophisticated understanding of and critical thinking about good and bad research practice.
8 meets expectations: Demonstrates good ability to understand theory and apply relevant research methods concepts to interpret the study and describe and explain its rationale and methodology; identifies and clearly explains a number of main weaknesses and alternative interpretations of the study.
7 marginal: Demonstrates some but limited ability to understand theory and apply relevant research methods concepts to interpret the study and describe and explain its rationale and methodology; identifies and explains a couple of obvious weaknesses and alternative interpretations of the study but evaluation of the study is superficial.
6 or below below expectations: Demonstrates little ability to understand theory and apply relevant research concepts to interpret the study and describe and explain its rationale methodology; does not identify and clearly explain most weaknesses and alternative interpretations of study.
