The independent variable in this study will be the mindfulness-based intervention. The dependent variable will be the reduction of anxiety symptoms.
To measure the dependent variable, I plan to use the following three measures: the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS). The STAI is a self-report measure that assesses both state and trait anxiety. The BAI is a self-report measure that assesses the severity of anxiety symptoms. The DASS is a self-report measure that assesses depression, anxiety, and stress.
The independent variable in this study will be the mindfulness-based intervention. This intervention will involve teaching adolescents mindfulness-based strategies such as mindful breathing, body scanning, and mindful movement. The intervention will also involve teaching adolescents how to identify and manage their emotions, as well as how to practice self-compassion. The intervention will be administered over a period of 8 weeks.
