A study completed by Hwang, Chang, LaClair, and Paz (2013) found there was a relationship between increased integration in health care delivery and an increase in the quality of care, which supports one of the goals of efficient services and Triple Aim initiatives.
The largest public-based integrated delivery system (IDS) in the United States is the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Within the VA system, the medical centers and clinics work together across the country to offer access, efficient care, and advanced services to veterans under a managed care model. The VA system consists of 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks, which work on a regional-based care system. However, TRICARE plans are not very flexible for beneficiaries who need to move out of network for any reason. Military members and veterans are encouraged to seek care in a military treatment facility, yet these facilities do not all attract a comprehensive variety of health care professionals. This can be a problem for individuals seeking treatment. Based on the managed care options and the goals of integrated systems, suggest changes to TRICARE. Include the following:
Explain the benefits and drawbacks of the TRICARE plans. (6 pts)
Identify the types of managed care TRICARE plans most closely resemble and explain why. (6 pts)
Identify the ways in which integrated systems work for TRICARE and the ways they do not. (6 pts)
Create a report that provides suggestions for how integrated systems could improve the issues with TRICARE you identified. (6 pts)
Use credible sources for development of your program and discussion of the organizations, and cite them in-text and in a reference list using APA. Each bulleted point above should have a heading and at least one paragraph of material supported (cited) by an outside source. (6 pts)
