*Health Assessment Paper Project:
In this course students will be required to research and work on topic-related projects. In the process of conducting appropriate research, proper sources for your research must contain citable bibliographic material that is peer-reviewed and authoritative as primary sources to include in your research paper. Accordingly, students will need to access the college library and the online library, LIRN, which Angeles College subscribes to and provides access to the college student body. Enrolled students are provided library training workshops conducted by the college librarian for all students in all programs*. Further detailed instructions for research paper requirements will be provided by the instructor on the first day of class. Additional information and resources may be found on the instructor’s website.
*New students will have to schedule an Information Literacy workshop with the college librarian.
GUIDELINES FOR HEALTH ASSESSMENT HEAD TO TOE ASSESSMENT PAPER
Components
A. Introduction: Create a succinct introduction of the paper.
B. Present a brief description of data include all relevant history and medical details about your patient in real life scenario.
C. Describe the head assessment, which includes shape of head (normal/abnormal—anencephaly/microcephaly/macrocephaly etc.), scalp (dry/moist and conditions associated with that), face—eye, eyebrows, eye lids, vision of eye, nose (nasal septum deviation, polyps etc.), lips, tongue, teeth and oral cavity.
D. Discuss the abnormalities of the assessed area based on your assessment findings. Mention the supportive questions which will help you to draw the conclusion.
E. Illustrate assessment of ear—hearing
F. Explain how you can assess the range of motion ability of the neck, and what are the abnormalities associated with nuchal rigidity?
G. Assessment the cardiothoracic system—heart sounds, lung sounds, and abnormalities associated with that system.
H. Explain the effective methods of gastrointestinal system assessment—eating habits and patterns, peristaltic movements, bowel sounds, bowel elimination patterns, visible tumors/hernia etc. Explain how to identify abnormalities.
I. Discuss musculoskeletal assessment—muscle mass and strength, reflexes, range of motion, gait and posture etc.
J. Describe the assessment of the genitourinary system, and expected findings when there are abnormalities associated with this system
K. Perform an assessment of the integumentary system—hair, nail and skin and discuss abnormalities related to the integumentary system and expected findings with each.
L. Conclusion—Summarize your findings based on the assessment and discuss the impact of a good head to toe assessment in quality patient care.
